NO to War! NO to NATO! AGAINST 5%

Instead, they tried to persuade us that this drastic increase in military and arms spending is necessary at a time when the "international order is under threat"-shamelessly ignoring the fact that it is precisely NATO, along with the U.S., Israel, and the European Union, that are undermining the international order, disregarding international law, and subverting the work of international organizations.
Just ten days before the "historic" decision to allocate 5% of GDP to the military, Israel launched a "preemptive" strike on Iran, violating the UN Charter. By the decision of President Trump, the United States joined in the attack, thereby violating not only its own Constitution but also the international law, which prohibits bombing nuclear facilities. Just hours before the Israeli strike Rafael Grossi, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, managed to push through a resolution based on Israeli intelligence reports, declaring that Iran was not complying with its nuclear obligations - thus fabricating an alibi for the Israeli attack.
For over eighteen months, the United States and the European Union have been ignoring the ruling of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which in January 2024 concluded that there is sufficient evidence to indicate that genocide is occurring in Gaza, and that all states parties to the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide are obligated to act to stop it. Instead, they have continued to cooperate with Israel, profiting heavily from arms sales.
At a time of blatant imperial power politics and the struggle to maintain global hegemony, the leaders of NATO - the richest and most powerful military alliance in the world - are trying to convince us that we are under threat and that militarization is the only solution!
At the same time, the citizens of Europe are being kept in the dark about the fact that 5% of GDP translates to a far larger share of the annual state budget. For Croatia, this means a staggering 12% of the entire annual budget! To put this in perspective: in 2024, 13.6% of the budget was spent on healthcare, just 5.3% on education, a mere 2.2% on housing and community improvement services, while the military already consumed 3.9%. What will we have to give up in order to meet NATO‘s militarization goal, while funneling public money into the pockets of already obscenely wealthy shareholders of the American, German, French... arms corporations?
What war are they preparing us for?
"Fortress Europe" thus fully embraces its militaristic-imperial agenda, abandoning the very ideals of peace and cooperation it was founded upon. Once again, democratic procedures have been trampled upon, pushing Europe another step closer to becoming a totalitarian regime ruled by bureaucratic oligarchy. Questions of war and peace are crucial, and decisions about them must be made by the citizens who will ultimately bear the cost of those decisions.
Instead of investment in the architecture of death, we demand investment in a participatory and democratic architecture of peace, social justice and security - one built on climate and ecological recovery.
That‘s why we stand with all anti-war voices which are now raising in European streets - shouting NO to war, NO to NATO!
